The Black Hole-Host Galaxy Relation in Active Galactic Nuclei
نویسنده
چکیده
The masses of the central black holes of Active Galactic Nuclei estimated by the reverberation virial technique seem to be significantly smaller than predicted from the black hole mass-bulge luminosity relation for massive black holes detected by kinematic methods in less active and normal galaxies. We reexamine the relation for updated data and suggest a few reasons that may cause this discrepancy.

Supermassive Black Holes in Active Galactic Nuclei. I. the Consistency of Black Hole Masses in Quiescent and Active Galaxies
We report the first results of a program to measure accurate stellar velocity dispersions in the bulges of the host galaxies of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) for which accurate black hole (BH) masses have been determined via reverberation mapping. We find good agreement between BH masses obtained from reverberation mapping, and from the M• −σ relation as defined by quiescent galaxies, indicatin...
متن کاملActive Galactic Nuclei with Candidate Intermediate-mass Black Holes
We present an initial sample of 19 intermediate-mass black hole candidates in active galactic nuclei culled from the First Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Using the linewidth-luminosity-mass scaling relation established for broad-line active nuclei, we estimate black hole masses in the range of MBH ≈ 8× 104 − 106 M⊙, a regime in which only two objects are currently known. The abso...
متن کاملThe Black Hole- Bulge Relations in Active Galactic Nuclei
We show that Massive Black Holes of AGNs follow the same approximately linear relation with the luminosity of the host spheroid (bulge) found in normal (quiescent) galaxies, with the black hole mass being 0.002 that of the bulge. We also demonstrate that Narrow line AGNs seem to have a significantly lower Mbh/Lbulge ratio, which implies a new strong correlation between Mbh/Lbulge and the width ...
متن کاملBlack Holes in Pseudobulges and Spheroidals: a Change in the Black Hole-bulge Scaling Relations at Low Mass1
We investigate the relationship between black hole mass and host galaxy properties for active galaxies with the lowest black hole masses currently known in galaxy nuclei. Hubble Space Telescope imaging confirms that the host galaxies have correspondingly low luminosity; they are ∼ 1 mag below L. In terms of morphology, ∼ 60% of the sample are disk-dominated, and all of these are consistent with...
متن کاملSupermassive black holes in radio-loud AGN
In this review the correlations between host galaxy properties and black-hole mass determined from nearby quiescent galaxies are briefly discussed, before proceeding to investigate their application to active galactic nuclei (AGN). The recent advances in estimating the black-hole masses of AGN are then reviewed, followed by an examination of the connection between black-hole mass and radio lumi...
